Did I rip you off?

April 9th, 2009

Well it seems that someone out there thinks so.

A couple of days ago I found this comment on one of my Free dreamweaver tutorials on you tube:

“Don’t buy anything from this guys website, his ripping you off…”

and the writer goes on to say:

“You can get these tutorials for free on youtube…”

It seems his point is that because there are some free Dreamweaver tutorials available on Youtube I must be ripping people off because we’re selling ours.

This got me thinking – “I wonder how our customer feel?”

Did you feel “ripped off” after buying DreamweaverMadeSimple or did you feel as though you got value for money?

Would you rather have spent weeks searching the internet piecing together bits and pieces of the dreamweaver puzzle or did you benefit from having a step by step dreamweaver tutorial taking you through the whole process from start to finish?

I’d really like to hear your view…

Are people being ripped of when they order DreamweaverMadeSimple?

Top Tips for Budding Web Designers

April 8th, 2009

Building a website is now easier than ever. More poeple are trying their hand at building their own websites. But if you don’t know your HTML to your CSS you may think you will struggle when it comes to building a website. But don’t you worry because the Internet is replete with resources or references that will teach you how to build your very first piece of real estate in cyberspace. However, before overloading with online tutorials on how to build the perfect website, you should first familiarise yourself with some of the basics in web design. Find out what they are below.

First, make your website look professional. True, you are just a beginner in this field, but you might as well start making it a habit to make your site appear that it has been built by a professional. As you may know, one of the secrets to online success is having a professional, trust worthy website. That is, if Internet users do not trust your website, you might as well take it off cyberspace. And when online visitors go to a website, they judge its trustworthiness largely on the appearance – specifically its neatness and adherence to established web design standards. A professional and established online presence is key when attracting potential clients to your business.

Also, you should remember that Internet users are not the type of folks who have all the time in the world. Quite on the contrary, your visitors rarely have time to spare, and they rely on fast, well built website when doing business online. With this in mind, remember that your website should be easy to navigate. Fortunately, incorporating techniques like external CSS will make the look and feel of your website far more appealing. Checking your code is valid is also important when building your website, using online validators like W3C (The World Wide Web Consortium) will keep you on track.

Lastly, always make it a point to build a relationship with your online visitors. Inviting your visitors to ‘ask a question’ or ‘leave a comment’ is a good way to interact with your users. Quite often, this important aspect can be overlooked. If you do not have ample contact information, potential web traffic may veer away from your site because online users will think that you are not credible. When you are done with your new website, you can try submitting it to a CSS Gallery or CSS Showcase website. Showcase websites present some of the best CSS and Flash websites from around the world and it doesnt matter if you can’t decide which is the best web gallery as there are plenty to choose from. With a bit of luck your new website might make it into a CSS Gallery.

Adobe Photoshop Course - Free vs. Paid

April 8th, 2009

If you’re trying to learn Photoshop online, then you’ve probably come many an Adobe Photoshop Course that are both free and paid. So which one is better? Should you drop money to learn Photoshop online? Hoepfully this article will give you some answers to help you make an informed decision before you buy an Adobe Photoshop course.

Free courses benefit from the fact, obviously, that they are free. If you really wanted to, you could conceivably find everything you could want to know as you learn Photoshop online. So, is it even worth paying anything for an Adobe Photoshop course?

Often, though, a problem arises from free tutorials because they are just a series of random tutorials, but not formed into an easy to follow course. Often, the sites that have free tutorials in a course format are incomplete or they are not as thorough as they need to be in order to really learn and master those aspects of Photoshop.

You could piece together a course with random video tutorials here and there, but this would take time. What you are really paying for is the time you could be saving from putting together an Adobe Photoshop course yourself. This is your time-cost factor?” Would you be willing to pay $50 on an Adobe Photoshop Course to save a couple hours of searching?

So, to summarize, what you are really paying for when you buy an Adobe Photoshop course is the time you save, but also the convenience of having a course that is already put together and well thought out for you. Ultimately, it comes down to determining how much you are willing to pay for your time.

What are the best courses out there for your money? Well, there’s a lot of information on Adobe Photoshop courses at http://www.squidoo.com/adobephotoshopcourses There’s also some good information on Photoshop in general at http://www.squidoo.com/learn-photoshop-online Hopefully, you can find all the information you need there, but if not, leave a comment for any more information you’d like to know.

The Truth Behind Web Hosting and Development

April 5th, 2009

The information that you encounter thru the use of your web browser is incorporated in web pages. These pages are kept and circulated by devices called web servers.   Web hosting and programs of that nature are relatable to storage units that maintain online pages so that people can access them easily. It is possible for one to host their own personal sites, but there are a number of consequences and problems that arise that prevents many people from actual doing it.    Displaying and storing large hardware and software by oneself is an enviable task that comes with its lion’s share of problems.

Your web site will incorporate its fair proportion of space and surfers would be needed to download all the pages before browsing them. Subsequently, your Net Link would have to be exceptionally fast to provide fully functioning ability to your clientele.   If you use an established website hosting company that provides website hosting capabilities, you may rid yourself of all these potential issues.  Once these problems are taken care of by the web hosting company, you will be left to simply set prices, met demands and count your profits. Except for implementing the application of such a server, you will be needed to buy and register a completely unique URL that essentially puts a name and a place to your website.

The most common positive asset that a web hosting program provides is its ability to display your site for others to browse and search.  There are also additional services that allow for e-mail capability and grant access for your site to send and receive emails through your host.  It will also allow a large amount of data to be updated and displayed through your site and provide kinetic E-books that will allow users to interact with the pages that you have created.

Poorly organized websites will most likely deflect users and damage the credibility of the data that it displays.   Here is a template of how a site can and should be arranged:

-Demands analysis- what is the aim or target for the website and what info should it display?
-Pattern-How should the web pages be interconnected and what structure should be used to ensure that each page is connected in an efficient manner?

Execution-This measure is the genuine encrypting of the sites in accordance and associated with the previous sites.
Examining- you should inspect the site before permitting it to launch to establish if it is fully functional.

There are some valuable clues and hints for online expansion that are offered by software systems These may also be applied to the expansion of sites and below they are published in correct order:

:

Robustness- How does the site answer to input errors or typos?
Functioning- How fast do the pages reply to inputs and activities performed by visitors of your website?
Usability-is the site smooth and straightforward to navigate or read
Maintainability-Is the site changed simply and is it really possible for modern functions to be applied to the web pages?
Portability- What software system demands will the site need and will this affect the amount of routine visitors??
Comprehensibility- How easily is the site to understand and navigate and does it represent the information that you intended it to?

Whilst planning your website, keep these main factors and queries in mind If you apply all of these ideas and analyze your site appropriately, it will make your website a worthwhile visit for consumers and potential clientele

website designing using principles of design

April 4th, 2009

The principles of web design are applicable in every field of designing whether it is for web design or any other form of designing. They lay more emphasis on putting the design elements in an effective manner. The principles will help you achieve the results that area more pleasing.

* Balancement might be defined as the accurate placement of the light and the heavy elements on the page. The balance principle helps us to achieve the goals that help us to design a better layout. It may be described as the actual interpretation of the gravity in the design or in other words it is the distribution of the elements in the design. Another way in which you can achieve balancing is asymmetrical balance wherein consider for instance you are intending to place the heavier element in front of the center line then you need to place the heavier element somewhere far off from the centerline. The balance designs can be controlled in 3 main ways : Symmetrical balance means placing the elements in an even fashion incase you are placing heavy elements on the left side then similarly you would place the heavier elements on the right hand side. The next criteria which you need to consider is the off balance style, in this form the design is totally unbalance. In case your website has content which is intending peoples to think then it is important to note that you can go in for the discordant or the off balance style.

* Contrast: Contrast might be defined as the difference between the similar element, further it’s not applicable only to color consider that there are several lines and one of the line is longer that other lines, then there is presence of contrast in this scenario. SO it’s very important to note that incase you are applying contrast in designs then you do think beyond color. You may use contrast by showing differences in the font family or font size. Headlines are more contrasting in nature than the surrounding text. Links also provide contrast, like the underlining and color of the link content provides room for contrast.

* Emphasis is the focal point which that’s provided to the content. A good web designer will determine the hierarchy to the content. It’s a way of determining the elements that are more important that others. Emphasis in the design can be implemented by the semantic mark up, fonts and the color.

* Rhythm: Rhythm is also defined as repetition. Rhythm will bring in internal consistency to web site. Repetition is a good way to attract the attention and instigates the attention of the people. Probably you can repeat the headlines a number of times to generate greater emphasis. It can be also implemented by repeating the text in HTML,inserting images a several times, repeating the navigation elements in all pages.

* Unity: Unity is defined as proximity or in other words it is the principle of keeping the similar elements together and keeping the different elements apart. Unity can be achieved through the placement in your layout.

Save hours building your website…

February 23rd, 2009

Whether you’re building your First Website or if it’s your tenth, knowing exactly what you want your website to do and how it’s going to do it BEFORE you start building it, makes the whole web design process sooo much easier.

The trouble is – how exactly do you do that? If you’re anything like me (or most other people for that matter) youv’e probably got a bucket load of ideas all fighting each other to get onto your site, and you’re probably wondering which ones do I go with?

All this confusion can really slow down the web design process (not to mention cause a heap of overwhelm), after all, if you have little or no idea about what your final outcome is going to be then you’re going to have a pretty hard time building a site that will achieve it!!

Luckily it doesn’t have to be that way. By simply asking yourself some very specific and targeted questions you can cut through all the confusion and focus in on exactly what want your website to do and how it’s going to do that.

Why it works…

Over the years we’ve developed a document that we call the “Website Discovery Document” that we use with all of our web development clients (as well as all our own websites) – In fact we won’t even start designing or building a website until we’ve completed this document.

In it, you’ll find a series of step by step question that will help you uncover exactly what it is that you want to get from your website. By the time you reach the end of it you’ll have a very clear picture of exactly what you’re going to get form your website.

The Website Discovery Document is the result of years of Web development experience, building websites both for ourselves and our clients. It’s taken 5 years to uncover the exact questions to ask so that in a matter of minutes you’ll have a totally clear picture of what your website will be like once it’s finished.

These sort of “inhouse documents” are rarely made available to the general public – after all, this is the exact reason our customers pay thousands of dollars to have us develop their websites.

What you’ll Get…

  • The full DreamweaverMadeSimple tutorial
  • The Website Discovery document
  • A step by step video to help you complete the document
  • BuildingWebsiteMadeSimple web design course
  • Many other bonuses (more details can be found here)

For a limited time (now until the 28th February) we’re going to make the Website Discovery document available to anyone who orders the DreamweaverMadeSimple bonus pack.

You’ll receive the exact same document we use with our clients who are paying anywhere from $4,000+ for a business website and a step by step video tutorial taking you through each and every question – Just to make sure it’s drop dead simple for you.

Where to find it…

To order right now visit:

Step up with Synchronization

December 1st, 2008

Dreamweaver is a wonderful program for webmasters on any level. The synchronization, or “sync” function is a tool that has helped many. When you have established your site, and feature a number of pages, you may find updating can be tedious. You only make changes on a few pages and finish your updating. But, you lost track of precisely what information was updated and which files you need to publish. You are working with two copies of your web site, one on your hard drive, and one on your server.

Dreamweaver comes to the rescue. If you have an especially large site you can also benefit from this function. The best way to initial sync is to do so when you first start building your web site. When you are configuring your site definition you have a box to check under the “Remote Info” section. This will maintain your synchronization.

The sync feature uses the standard Get/Put functions that are in all of Dreamweaver. It will check to see which files are newest, those on your server, or those on your hard drive. If you are the sole proprietor of your web site, and there are no other individuals working on your web pages, you should avoid the “Check In/Check Out” function. There is a chance that the software will download an old file by mistake and overwrite your new pages.

“Check In/Check Out” is a function reserved for when a number of people work on the same site. This is a service that ensures everyone in the group has the most recent files from the web site. If your coworker uploads three changed web pages, when you use this function, Dreamweaver will download those new pages into your computer’s site.

To synchronize your site at this moment, right click anywhere in your “Files” panel. This should be to your right on the screen. You will then select “Synchronize.”

A menu box will appear for you to work with. You can either publish your entire site or just the sites you specify. Next, you will need to chose where you want to copy the newest files.

Selecting “Put New Files to Remove” tells the software to put the newest files on your computer onto the server.

Selecting “Get Newer Files from Remote” does the opposite. It looks for newer files on your server that will be downloaded onto your computer.

There is also a function called “Get and Put Newer Files” that will do both.

Your next step will be the “preview” area where you can see what files will be affected. If you have any doubts about deleting files you should act now. Once Dreamweaver overwrites or deletes web pages or graphics, you will likely not be able to reverse it.

When you are through you can click “OK” or “Cancel” to approve or stop the action. Once it has completed you are done.
